Its almost May

And the yanks are almost over 500.

They are way ahead of their pace from the last five years.

Just wait until A-Rod comes back.

So, I saw two games in Boston last weekend. I have now seen a game between the Yanks/Sox in both Old Yankee Stadium and Fenway.

Fenway is very special. It doesn't have any amenities to speak of. It is full of drunken lunatics that turn faster than a top if you are doing well. One such ruffian behind me, within seconds, said - BECKETT YOU ARE AWESOME and then - BECKETT YOU BUM.

I like watching people. They are genuinely funny.

Its golfing time

And I am happy.

In other news, I have to go to the 'city this week and then boston afterwards.

Yes, I have tickets to Yanks/Sox in Fenway.

HAH!

Harper Hires Ari

I wish he had hired Ari Gold.

Now, I am not an expert, nor am I a micro manager - I think the PM should use his budget to hire whomever he thinks is best positioned to help Canada. That is his call.

Personally, I think I would look at his history of success in relaying messages to the world and think "if he is the best available, Bush must have been REALLY bad before his message got mangled domestically and internationally."

But, seriously, is Ari Fleischer really helping in the best interests of Canada? Or is he doing post-facto legacy building for his former benefactor? The coverage is really interesting:

- Harper is an ally on the War on Terror - an expression which is no longer en vogue in the US.
- Harper believes in regulatory reduction - while Canada has very strong regs on finances, Bush...uh...didn't.

Those are just two examples - but I think they are important to keep in mind.

Who choked more?

Was it Kenny Perry, who finished 5, 5 and then snap hooked a short iron on the second playoff hole to lose to a guy who hit a tree on the first playoff hole?

Or was it Phil Mickelson who shot 30 on the front nine before making a double on 12 (water) and then missing a four footer for eagle (15) before missing another four footer for birdie (17) and then kicking it up the 18th and bogeying the last.

Or was it Tiger who did the same thing without the double and bogeying 17 as well. He also knocked it off a tree on 18.

Or was it Kevin Martin who made the DUMBEST decision in the history of competitive curling by throwing a rock away instead of guarding what was clearly the easiest tap/raise on his way to losing the World Curling championship to the Scots. I can't even explain how dumb that was.

Summer is almost here...

When you see this picture.

I love the Masters

Little Bow Wow

Ok- now I am just upset.

When meeting the leader of Saudi Arabia, Obama bowed. It was a sign of respect, it was a deep bow. Big deal. He bowed, but not as much, to Queen E.

A few weeks ago, I saw PM Harper bow in front of a few Korean Business people.

Conservative pundits in America don't think bowing is appropriate. They are ripping Obama a new one for showing deference and cultural sensitivity.

Not to focus on the Bush family history of ostensibly blowing the House of Saud, I don't see bowing as such a big deal. Lots of cultures bow to each other out of respect. Hell, even I have bowed to people.

I like the idea of a US president who shows respect. I like the idea of a US President who understands that not everyone has the same culture that the Americans don't even have as a monolith.

Besides, what is more important - bowing, and then telling them what's what, or looking like an unbending asshole because it plays well at home to a demographic who is not going to vote for you anyway.

Today's sign that the Apocolypse is upon us

Because, this is the real solution to climate change - give the SAUDI's money and technology...

I have a special message for the House of Saud - stop acting like crickets, start acting like ants.

Or, rather, stop acting like crickets that give money to terrorist organizations and use that money to diversify your economy.

I think Jean Luc Picard said it best in "First Contact."

U.N. climate talks threaten our survival: Saudi Arabia
Reuters
Wednesday, April 08, 2009
By Gerard Wynn

BONN, Germany - United Nations climate talks threaten Saudi Arabia's economic survival and the kingdom wants support for any shift from fossil fuels to other energy sources such as solar power, its lead climate negotiator said.

Contrasting interests of different countries are challenging faltering climate talks, meant to forge by December a new global deal in Copenhagen to curb man-made climate change.

Small island states say their survival is threatened by rising seas. But Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter, says it could suffer from any pact which curbs oil demand by penalizing carbon emissions.

"It's a matter of survival for us, also. So we are among the most vulnerable countries, economically," Mohammad Al Sabban told Reuters on the fringes of talks which end on Wednesday, after the latest in a series of meetings meant to thrash out a deal to replace or extend the Kyoto Protocol after 2012.

"Saudi Arabia has not done that much yet to diversify."

Other divisions in the talks include rich versus poor, nations which contribute more to climate change than others, and countries more vulnerable to sea level rise, floods and droughts.

Saudi Arabia wants support, for example, to develop alternative energy sources and to earn credits for burying greenhouse gases underground in near-depleted oil wells.

Al Sabban said Saudi Arabia's solar power ambition was "much larger" than Abu Dhabi's $15 billion Masdar project to invest in renewable energy and build a carbon neutral city, but declined to put a dollar number on Saudi plans.

"We have a lot of sun, a lot of land. We can export solar power to our neighbors on a very large scale and that is our strategic objective to diversify our economy, it will be huge."

"We need the industrialized countries to assist us through direct investment, transfer of technologies," to ease the burden of a new climate deal, he added.

CASH

Developing nations want more cash from rich countries to help fund their fight against climate change but may have to wait until the final days and weeks of haggling in December.

Saudi Arabia wants to access an existing adaptation fund which the U.N.'s climate chief Yvo de Boer describes as a "pittance." The country may have to compete with others which want funds to prepare for sea level rise and extreme weather.

"Adaptation is not only to the impact of climate change but also the impact of climate policies," said Al Sabban.

Other Saudi demands from the U.N. talks include a re-vamping of fossil fuel taxes in industrialized countries to focus on carbon rather than energy, which may benefit oil because it emits less of the greenhouse gas compared to coal.

It also wants an elimination of subsidies for rival biofuels which it says harm the environment and hike food prices.

The new U.S. administration of President Barack Obama has called for an increase in the amount of corn-based ethanol to be used in gasoline in the United States.

Al Sabban said Saudi Arabia was "worried" about a "dangerous" threat to its economy but would cooperate.

Environmental groups say the country has obstructed the climate talks for years, filibustering with frequent interventions in debates involving up to 190 countries.

"We get used to these allegations," Al Sabban said. "We are faithfully engaging in these negotiations. Everybody here is coming to protect their interests, we are doing the same, the EU is doing the same, the United States."

The Greatest Ever to Play the Game

This is the picture that changed the way that basketball was played.
He was the first - kobe and Lebron followed in his massive footsteps.
The only thing they could have done better is changed the rules so he could have gone into the hall of fame earlier and as a class of 1.

Dumbest News Story of the day

Apparently, people are up in arms because a parole office is going to be located in the city - just off somerset.

Ok- so I have two thoughts about this

1) When the criminals are not going to the parole office, do they get to go into other communities (yes, with limitations)

2) Where do you think criminals are the least likely to re-offend? (I am guessing - DIRECTLY IN SIGHT OF THEIR PAROLE OFFICER)

Gary Trudeau, man who understands...

I agree with everything except the last panel...
