Contradictory Domestic Policy 101

Let me get this straight:

If you are Lebanese and your are visiting Lebanon for the summer when the shit hits the fan, the government will evacuate you no questions asked.

But, if you are Egyptian, or a student visiting the Pyramids, you have to cover your own way home?

C'mon.

If only we had a military base in the region we could easily send people to quickly and easily.

Politics and Slip-ups

Maybe Peter MacKay just likes to play RISK

Seriously, when people pounce on knuckle-head stuff like this, they just look silly. And, there are gaffs and there are mistatements - it isn't like he based a policy decision on a wrong-headed view of a map.

No, this government would never do that

Electors who are free to choose

Are free to decide.

All Kneel before CRAHM

I would imagine Mr. Emanuel's prayer will sound different than this one , however.

Five Yeas Later

The Conservatives have been in power for five years. The world hasn't ended.

If anything, we have learned how irrelevant the House of Commons really is.

Liberalism

Someone asked me last night why I was a Liberal- I don't exactly fit into their demographic.

My response - "I wasn't really anything until I went to Western. I knew what I liked and didn't like. I had a class with Prof. Ian Brodie, and he said a lot of things I didn't agree with - and then self identified as a Conservative/Reformer. I knew I wasn't that.

Then I went to law school. Then I knew I was a Liberal."

Pithy remakrs

I think that due to time constraints, I am going to focus on making snide asides instead of having larger more substantive posts about stuff. Maybe that makes me a bad analyst, but it certainly is more likely to increase my post count knowing that I can pithily update my status in a line or two.

I mean, all the kids are doing it this way through the twitter, right?

So, my first pithy observation?

"I am a firm supporter of the ability of people to have registered weapons in their remote homes to shoot at bears who may attack in the middle of the night - and would also support releasing a movie about this staring Edward Norton. I am not a supporter of conceal/carry laws, or home invasion deterrent possession. I think you should have to justify your weapon, and defending your property is no longer good enough."

"PS - I wish a federal judge in the US would depart from 200 years or so of jurisprudence and say "oh, c'mon, the right to bear arms is about rising up against corrupt governments. Ironically, a strict constructionist like Robert Bork would have supported this position. Guess who liked him? The socially conservative right."

I hate the Baseball Writers of America

Any universe where Robbie Alomar gets into the Hall of Fame, and Mark McGuire - one of the two men who SAVED baseball in the late 1990s - does not, is not a fair and just universe.
